With over a foot of snow in the mountains and winds well over 100mph on Mount Washington, it seems like winter has finally arrived in NH. The above photo was taken on March 3, 2008. Jim Surette and Mark Synnott approaching the upper section of Central Couloir on Mount Webster in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire.

Photo Details: Canon 30D w/ EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens, 1/400s @ f/6.3 and ISO 400 w/ +0.67 exposure compensation.

Diagonal

Ryman McLane telemark skiing a steep gully near Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington. I’ve heard this gully called either Diagonal or Stovepipe and it’s located skier’s right of Dodge’s Drop. Whatever you want to call it, Diagonal or Stovepipe is steep and not often in good condition.

Photo Details: Canon 5D w/ 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens @ 17mm, 1/500s @ f/8 and ISO 100.

I’m not sure if this drainage has been skied before? It probably has, but it’s fun to check out unknown terrain. Photo is from February 24, 2009 and shows Ryman McLane telemark skiing a narrow/rocky drainage in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Photo Details: Canon 5D w/ EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II USM lens at 16mm, 1/320s at f/5.6 and ISO 640 w/ +1 exposure compensation.
