The large granite dome on the right is The Sheepshead in Cochise Stronghold, Arizona. I’ll be flying to Arizona in exactly two weeks and hope to check out some of the multi pitch routes on The Sheepshead.

Photo Details: Nikon D2X on tripod w/ 70-200mm f/2.8 VR AF-S lens @ 175mm, 1/80s @ f/5.6 and ISO 200.

Taken in March 2007, this is Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River just outside of Page, Arizona. It’s located downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Photo Details: Nikon D2X w/ 12-24mm DX lens at 12mm on tripod, 1/50s at f/8 and 100 ISO. I was also using a Singh-Ray graduated neutral density filter to balance the lighter clouds and darker sandstone/river.

Cochise Stronghold

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I was looking through my archive of photos from 2006 and came across this series of photos taken at the popular climbing area of Cochise Stronghold in Arizona. I had taken them with the intention of creating a panoramic, but never got around to it. Until today:

potd_cochisepano

This is the western side of Cochise Stronghold at sunset in January 2006, the largest dome towards the center right is Sheepshead. I’m looking forward to visiting this area in the near future.

Photo Details: Nikon D2X w/ 17-55mm DX lens at 48mm on tripod, 1/80s at f/8 and 200 ISO, just basic Photomerge of 4 photos in Photoshop CS4. The actual panoramic shows more of the landscape on either side, but I cropped it to focus on most prominent features.
