I’m not sure if this drainage has been skied before? It probably has, but it’s fun to check out unknown terrain. Photo is from February 24, 2009 and shows Ryman McLane telemark skiing a narrow/rocky drainage in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Photo Details: Canon 5D w/ EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II USM lens at 16mm, 1/320s at f/5.6 and ISO 640 w/ +1 exposure compensation.

Although it’s a multi-hour approach, I’m not going to name this location in order to keep it under the radar. Ryman McLane telemark skiing some real New Hampshire powder somewhere in the White Mountains in February 2008.

Photo Details: Canon 30D w/ EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens, 1/500 at f/5.6 and ISO 200 w/ +1 exposure compensation.

Skookumchuck Brook

I thought about not naming this location because backcountry skiers usually like to keep their “stashes” secret. But to be honest, the skiing in this drainage isn’t that great; you would need a huge snow year to really cover the rocks and ice. Nevertheless, it’s still a fun place to explore. Taken in March of 2005, the photo is of Ryman McLane telemark skiing Skookumchuck Brook on Mount Lafayette in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire.

Photo Details: Nikon D2H w/ 10.5mm fisheye lens, exposure of 1/1000s at f/8 and 200 ISO. On a side note, the Spring of 2005 is when I sold my last film camera and started shooting digital exclusively.
